What We Do : Program Details
An Innovative Program
Our goal is to help every woman that walks through our doors escape poverty and move towards self-sufficiency through employment in the food service industry. Here's how the program works:
- 16 weeks of "hands-on" training in WOW's two food service businesses
- Real work environment - Students train and work with professional chefs at our cafeteria location in the Denver Human Services building as well as our Downtown location, Cafe Options. These locations provide 35-40% of our annual operating revenue!
- Individual attention - we work with 16-18 students at any one time.
- Case Management - The WOW support services team works with students to address barriers to employment such as homelessness, unreliable childcare, and health issues.
- Life Skills training and classes on decision-making, budgeting, and more
- Job Placement - WOW's Manager of Employment Services guides each student until they find employment; working relationships are maintained with a growing number of food service businesses that hire WOW graduates
- Follow-up services - All graduates receive support for 1-3 years to ensure stability at work and home
Impressive Results
- Each year from 2006-2009, 94-100% of WOW students were placed in jobs.
- During these years, 75% of WOW's graduates scheduled to mark their 1-year anniversary of employment successfully did so
- All of the WOW graduates significantly increased their employment income to $8.00-$13.00/hr
- 95% of WOW’s partner employers report very high satisfaction with WOW graduates.
